Overview

At release in 2017, the iPhone X really embodied the future of Apple smartphones and push the boundaries of an edge to edge smartphone that is now the blueprint of a premium iPhone.

Design

Apple's iPhone X features a 5.8-inch edge to edge super retina display. To manage this Apple got rid of its fingerprint scanner and replaced it with its impressive face id. The result is the one big flaw that also houses its 7-megapixel selfie camera.

The X also got aluminum bezels with a glass rear surrounding the dual 12-megapixel camera. The aluminum and glass finishes make the X feel and look premium. Not only does it feel the way, its also still IP67 water-resistant.

The biggest talked about feature was the loss of the headphone jack, ultimately to make way for the powerful speakers. You can still use your old headphones with the adapter that's now included.

Display

The iPhone X's 5.8 inches OLED HDR display gives you a brighter more colorful experience with true tone colors. Apple also included 3D touch in these models which give you different selection options at different pressure sensitivity. Where the iPhone 8 Plus has a 1300:1 contrast ratio, the X has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Face ID

Apple ditched the Touch Id on the iPhone X for the new Face ID feature to make more space for its display. Powered by an a11 bionic chip the face id manages to get it right almost every single time. The feature uses a TrueDepth camera system that makes a 3D map of your face. The image is then analyzed by Apples A11 Bionic neural engine that processes the image using complex algorithms.

All and all the Face Id does make using your iPhone a lot easier. Another cool feature that you can use the face ID with is Apple's Animoji feature which allows you to take a picture of yourself using the TrueDepth camera and convert it to a live emoji.

Camera

The X has two 12MP cameras fitted in the rear with an improved true tone flash located in between. The 12MP wide-angle camera that uses f/1.8 optical image stabilization to reduce motion blur together with the 12MP Telephoto camera which also provides 2X optical zoom. The dual optical sensors provide beautiful portrait photos.

The front camera features a 7-megapixel selfie camera.

Battery Life

The iPhone X battery received contrasting reviews with some critics saying that you can expect 11 hours of video playback with others claiming 12 – 13 hours longer. The good thing is that the X still enables fast charging via wireless charging.
